What We Do

Here at A Second Set of Hands (SSoH) we offer a number of projects that help work towards our goal of maximizing family time for our partnered families. In addition to these services, we host various events for our students and for our families and their loved ones throughout the year to create a relaxing atmosphere. The page below lists our main projects. To find more out about upcoming events, click on the "Upcoming Events and Announcements" tab on the Main Menu.

#1

Yard/Housework

We understand with so much on your plate things like raking leaves, picking up sticks, weeding/gardening, mowing the lawn, etc. may not be on the top of your to-do list, which is why SSoH would love to help. This project is on an as-needed basis, so if you would like help with these tasks reach out to one of us to get a date/time that is convenient for you to set up.

#2

Homework Help

Another project is helping families and their child(ren) with their schoolwork (Reading comprehension, Writing Skills, Math), so family time on the patient’s side can be spent relaxing and having fun, not worrying about schoolwork. SSoH will work with our patient-families to set up a consistent and practical schedule that is convenient for the patient-family.

#3

Grocery Delivery/Meal Prep

SSoH will be able to deliver groceries from stores including but not limited to Acme, Giant, Whole Foods, and Target. If help with meal prep is desired, SSoH members can help prepare meals that can be frozen for future meals.

#4

Companionship/

Big Sibling Project

We understand how stressful undergoing cancer treatment is for both the patient and their loved ones. When a family joins with a Second Set of Hands, a group of Radnor students will get paired with that family, acting as their second family. This pairing will remain consistent so the family will get to know their SSoH students, creating strong companionship. Whether it is letters, phone calls, emails, we hope that our students can help provide connection and comfort.

For families with children, we offer our “Big Sibling” project, which works to connect a SSoH member to the child(ren), creating another mentor/role model through games, conversation, or assisting with schoolwork.
